A compartmentation survey examines fire-resisting walls, floors and service penetrations. A non-intrusive survey records accessible areas; an intrusive scope includes agreed access above ceilings, in risers or behind finishes.
How often is a survey needed, and what does the report contain?
The need depends on risk, existing records and changes such as new services or fit-outs. The report records locations, photographs and findings for the Responsible Person and their Fire Risk Assessor; it is not a certificate or a works specification.
What affects survey costs, and how are repairs arranged?
Building size, compartment lines, records and access affect the scope and quote. Separately agreed fire stopping repairs are carried out by third-party-certificated installers using systems appropriate to the construction and penetration.
